
Residential visa in Nepal
In Nepal, residential visa is a long-term visa granted for foreign nationals who wish to reside in the country such a purpose such as retirement, investment or other non-tourist activities. This visa allows for opening bank account, acquiring driving license and enrolling your children in to private school etc.
Types of visas in Nepal:
1) Tourist visa: A tourist visa is a document issued by a foreign government that allows travelers to enter their country for tourism purposes.
2) Non tourist visa: A non-tourist visa in Nepal refer to a visa category intended for foreigners who are in the country for purposes other than tourism this visa is typically granted for activities such as:
i) Study visa: study visa is a visa which allow you to legally study in specific country for specific date range.
ii) Business visa: visa which is given to the people who engaged in business, trade or investment related activities.
iii) Transit visa: Foreign nationals having a transit in Nepal can obtain transit visa.
iv) Non-residential visa: A non-residential visa in Nepal is a special type of visa issued to non-residential Nepalese
Eligibility Criteria to obtain Residential Visa:
According to the immigration law of Nepal, the following individuals are eligible for residential visa:
- Foreign deserving to live in Nepal without engaging in business activity
- Persons of International Reputation
- Individual who has made significance contribution to Nepal economics, social or cultural development.
- Person, who has invested minimum one hundred thousand US dollars or convertible foreign currency equivalent thereto in industrial enterprise of Nepal at once.
Required documents:
- Receipts of on-line application
- Bank statement of USD 20,000
- Certificate of having regular income at least USD 20,000 per year
- Character certificate
- No objection letter from concerned country of embassy
- Heath certificate issued by TU teaching hospital
- The evidence of completing 60 years or proof of retirement
- copy of valid passport or recent Nepalese’s visa
- -For renewal expenditure statement of USD 20,000
Application process for residential visa
1) Complete the online visa application through the official department of immigration websites.
2) Gather all documents as listed above
3) Submit the application and documents to the department of immigration in Kathmandu.
4) Pay the visa fee upon the approval.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION
-Residential visa are usually issued for one year at a time and must be renewed annually.
-This visa does not permit unrestricted employment in Nepal. Special work permit is required if the holder wishes to work.
-Visa holder must comply with all Nepalese law and immigration regulation to avoid cancellation
